The greater thermal property of PIR means that it outperforms typical batt products (fibreglass or polyester) in terms of higher R-values. A 50mm PIR board will provide similar R-Values to that of 90mm batts in a wall/cavity application, also Its closed cell structure provides better moisture resistance, anti-fungal and vermin resistance.
The closed cell nature of PIR provides a very low moisture uptake. The water vapour transmission rate is 10-15g/m2 per 24 hours. We would recommend an Embossed Foil facing over Glass Fabric in unlined areas and areas of potential damp.
PIR will self-extinguish as soon as the cause of fire is removed. PIR foam is a thermosetting material. It does not melt, flow, or drip when exposed to fire and it will form a strong char that helps protect the foam core and prevent flame spread. CNZ Insulation have Group2 and Group3 fire rated products.

All standard stocked PIR board come in 2400mm x 1200mm.
At times we also have other product stocked so it is always good to give us a call as we may be able to service a particular need outside of the normally stocked product.
If we are not holding enough stock to fill your order there may be a delay whilst we order more of the board you require. This can take up to 4 weeks depending on how busy the manufacturer is – you will be kept up to date on timing throughout the process. If you have a job coming up that requires more than 200m2 it is advisable to let us know so that we can increase stock levels if necessary – this can be before you place an order. The more time you give us for bigger jobs the better.

We have freight carriers we regularly use and will choose the best carrier for the job. Therefore, it is helpful to know if there are any relevant factors we should be considering when quoting or arranging your freight such as any vehicle access restrictions or required unloading capabilities.
In our standard packing configurations, we stack 2 packs high on trucks. If this is to be hand unloaded, we would need to stack only one pack high which limits the quantity of packs that can fit in a truckload. It may also impact the waiting time for the driver which can affect the freight cost.
We would usually recommend allowing approximately a week in shipping within NZ, however this depends on various factors.
Not usually. If you do require aide with unloading, we can arrange a special vehicle accordingly. By default, freight quotes do not include this service, and we anticipate you have access to a forklift or similar for unloading.

Cut PIR Insulation by using a fine-toothed saw or by scoring with a sharp knife, snapping the board over a straight edge, then cutting the facing on the other side.
We would not recommend using a reticulated saw for cutting an Embossed Foil faced board, as the teeth can catch on the foil facing.
Typically, any polyurethane based glue is compatible with PIR and the facers. We recommend you test the adhesion is suitable prior to using on your project.
We recommend a FRR expandable foam such as product from SIKA, HoldFast, and Soudal.
We are soon to be stockists of the EJOT range of insulation fasteners. Contact us for more information.
For Glass Fabric or Facing Free we would recommend adding a vapour barrier between the PIR insulation and the concrete/ masonry. For Embossed Foil an additional barrier is not required.
PIR is not a polystyrene and does not have some of the wiring drawbacks that polystyrene does. No special shielding or purple sheathing is required for standard wiring. PIR will have no detrimental effect when in contact with standard electrical cabling, although as always default to the plans and requirements as specified and set out by your architect.
